PEA Signs Contract for Procurement and Installation of Feeder Device Interfaces (FDI) and Communication Equipment for Power Distribution Command Centers

On August 15, 2019, at 10:00 AM, Mr. Sompong Preeprem, Governor of the Provincial Electricity Authority (PEA), presided over the contract signing ceremony for the procurement and installation of Feeder Device Interfaces (FDI) and communication equipment for the Power Distribution Command Center system under the Power Distribution Command Center Efficiency Enhancement Project in the northern, northeastern, central, and southern regions.

Mr. Vallop Kittivivat, Deputy Governor of PEA and Project Director, and Mr. Suthee Julanutrakul, Chairman of Precise System and Project Co., Ltd., signed the contract. The ceremony was held at the Magic 2 Room, 2nd Floor, Miracle Grand Convention Hotel, Laksi, Bangkok, and attended by executives from PEA and the company.

Electricity is a vital utility, with increasing consumption every year. Consumers demand greater reliability and confidence in power supply. PEA has therefore implemented the Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition (SCADA) system in conjunction with the power grid to ensure efficient, stable, and effective control and problem resolution of the electrical system.

Currently, the government promotes renewable energy generation from distributed sources, leading to greater operational complexity and more circuits in the electrical system. PEA has therefore increased the number of Feeder Device Interfaces (FDI) and enhanced their features to handle more complex power supply systems. In addition, PEA has upgraded communication and information technology to be more modern, enabling quick and accurate feedback of power outage data to the command center. The detailed and accurate information from the Feeder Device Interfaces enhances the effectiveness of the analysis and planning of the electrical system, supporting future power systems and aligning with the Ministry of Digital Economy and Society’s Smart City Development Plan.

If the installation of Feeder Device Interfaces (FDI) and communication equipment for the Power Distribution Command Centers is completed as planned, it will allow PEA to control power distribution more effectively and securely, reduce outage time and areas, support the impact of integrating various distributed renewable energy sources into the distribution system, and adopt advanced communication technologies. All devices will be switched to IP networks, preparing PEA for the transition to becoming a fully digital organization.
